venl8r asked:

@ moms for the holidays…she has 1/2inch PVC from water heater to lavatory, hot and cold, both 1/2 inch pvc fittings to valves are cross threaded, instead of replacing the PVC fittings I want to sweat copper from water heater, and cold feed to lavatory what fitting do I need to go from PVC to copper thread? or should I just cut the pvc where it is cross threaded and replace the 1/2inch slip joint to thread fitting?

    SHANNON

1/2″ male PVC thread and a 1/2″ female copper
Glue the PVC and then thread on the copper and go from there.

1/2″ N.P.T. threads are used on pvc and copper fittings.

You can also use a compression coupling, 5/8″ OD.Or you could use a ball valve with the same compression fittings on each end. If you choose this method of repair, be sur eto use a little pipe joint compund on ferrels and threads of compression fittings. It makes them tighten much easier. Also be sure not to over tighten end that cpvc goes in to. Good luck.

If it was my mother’s house i would rip out all the PVC and replace it with copper or PEX tubing. If not go to any hardware store and they will set you up with what you need. Sounds like you need a cpvc to iron pipe adapter

As long as your doing the job, do it right and replace all the pipe with copper. It’s the only way to go.

I like PEX it is fast easy and cheap! It is becoming widely accepted as replacement for supply pipe. as for your question I would not hesitate to use a push to connect fitting to connect the cut end of the plastic to the copper. if you use copper sweat fittings you need to sweat the connection before you thread it into the plastic or it will melt.
