hiswife04 asked:

i live in a gated community and am renting a condo from someone (other than the gated community, our “landlord” owns the condo). seeing how we have no affiliation with the management of the community i wanted to know is it our responsibility or the owner’s to have a plumber come out? our toilet in the half bath is clogged or something and nothing seems to be working.

do i take this to the owner or get a plumber myself? thanks!

check the lease you signed with the renter. most renters will not pay for plumbers though, but it will all be in black and white in the lease you signed.

I would say if you did it, you pay it but if it was an ongoing problem then the owner, for sure!

It isnt your responsibility. As the tenant, you should alert your landlord to the problem. They typically have maintnence people assigned for communities such as that. Your landlord could either a.) send his person over to fix the problem or b.) tell you to hire someone and present them with the bill. c.) he would make the call to the gated community.

take it to the owner whom ever you are renting off of.that would be your wisest choice.

If the clog is at the toilet its your responsibility I would say. If its beyond that and deems major work, you must notify the community.

read your rental agreement. it could be that you pay for the plummer out of pocket, if it is a plug, if the lines or broken, thats a different story.
call the landlord. if you pay you can probably, take if off your rent.

If you are sure you did not clog the toilet, your landlord would be the one to call.

Get out your lease and read it….

This is what you are paying rent for! It is the owner/landlord’s responsibility to pay for a plumber to come out and fix the problem. You should not be penalized or required to pay extra for this. Just call him.
