A few weeks ago my sink was clogged. Maintenance said they din’t know how to fix it.

They called a plumber. He was here for a few minutes, cleared the clog and told me it was due to putting food down the garbage disposal. So yesterday I get a notice on my door saying that i owe them $105 and a late fee of &89.

You should ask that question before signing the contract with the landlord.

I have never heard of that, I thought all maintence was there responsiblitly. I would look up legal rental codes on the internet. Cause that doesnt sound right. =(

The first thing you need to do is read over your lease. If you don’t have copy, ask the manager. The manager is reguired, by law, to give you copy if you request it.
If it doesn’t say in the contract they can’t make you do it.
After reading it confront the manager, show them in the contract that it doesn’t say you have to pay it.
If they argue let them know thatr you intend on consulting a lawyer, but DO NOT miss your rent or they can boot you out, with only 10 days notice.

You caused the clog, you pay for it. As far as a late fee on a plumbing bill, I never heard of that. Landlords only pay if roots clog the pipes or a pipe breaks. Nothing else.
